Our Story
‘Gravelaxe’ first performed in 2003 after founder member Tony Wood got together with friends to offer light-hearted entertainment at singer Rob Wilks’s forthcoming wedding reception. The band name then derived from a dinner table chat over a cured salmon starter (Gravlax)!! Since then we have continuously jammed and gigged, with Tony, Rob and various other band members coming and going.
The current lineup of Tony Wood (Guitar), Rob Wilks (Lead Vocals), Merv Joseph (Bass) David Boyer (Lead) and Sean Wilks (Drums) is the longest period of time that the band has had the same status quo (forgive the pun) and is our best band ever!!
We’ve played all types of venues and functions from packed town squares to parties, pubs and open-air festivals. Our set lists are comprised of some of history’s greatest rock hits as well as more diverse offerings. Music by bands such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Status Quo, Oasis, Queen, AC/DC, The Clash, Blur, Nirvana, Blink 182, Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs, The Jam, Lenny Kravitz, Motorhead, Black Sabbath, The Killers and Arctic Monkeys. Our mission has always been to bring authentic, raw rock energy back to the stage. No backing tracks, no auto tune or other gimmicks. We play real instruments with real passion and aim to ensure that those listening enjoy themselves as much as we do.
Finally, we’d like to thank our family, friends and fans who have stuck with us on our musical journey, as well as the long list of musicians and techies who worked so hard over the years to try and make us sound good!!
